FOOTHILL STUDENT HOUSING
The University of California, Berkeley, required additional student facilities at the eastern edge of campus, directly behind the Greek Theater. The site includes a commons building, housing for 750 students, recreational facilities and parking for 250 cars. The Hillside complex, providing housing for 400 students, spatially connects with the existing Stern Hall, forming a series of outdoor courtyards. With carefully located paths and elevators, the compact and steep site is entirely accessible by anyone with a disability. The La Loma site provides an additional 350 student beds in courtyard configurations. This project was produced by William Turnbull Associates and The Ratcliff Architects. Tomas Frank as project architect played a significant role in the design, management, and execution of this project.
