WOODSTOCK RESIDENCE
The heavily wooded site contains a former blue stone quarry, which flooded into a small lake. The left over rocks from the quarry were used years ago to create walls that crisscrossed the site in several locations. The house is sited along one such wall facing the quarry/lake and away from the main road. The stone wall is used as the main organizing element. The wall connects indoors to outdoors, while also provides the main heat source for the house by its passive solar mass and large Rumford style fireplace. Building materials are simple and local. The heavy timber frame, decking, studs and board and batten siding were milled on site from trees harvested on the property.
